Diabetes in the emergency department covered in new CDEP topic
A short training topic on managing diabetes in the emergency department has been launched by the Cambridge Diabetes Education Programme (CDEP).
The new topic is based on the Getting it Right First Time (GIRFT) interactive pathways for staff working in the emergency department.
Depending on the selected level, the topic will focus on:
· Essential safety checks for people living with diabetes in the emergency department
· The management of patients admitted to the emergency department with hypoglycaemia
· The management of patients presenting to the emergency department with a foot problem
· The initial management of hyperglycaemia in adults in the emergency department.
Candice Ward, CDEP Lead, said: “We are thrilled to introduce this training on managing diabetes in the emergency department, built around the GIRFT interactive pathways.
“This training is about giving staff the confidence and knowledge they need, right at the point of care, to make a meaningful impact and deliver safe, timely, evidence-based care for people with diabetes.”
She added: “By launching this new topic, we are aiming to bridge the gap between diabetes care and emergency department workflows.”
This topic will take roughly 15 to 45 minutes to complete. For more information, click here.
