Position statement on reducing carb intake among people with type 1 diabetes published

A position statement on therapeutic carbohydrate reduction nutrition interventions for people with type 1 diabetes has been published by the Society of Metabolic Health Practitioners.

The document has been drafted to help and support healthcare professionals who are treating people with type 1 diabetes.

Supported by observational and interventional evidence, the Society of Metabolic Health Practitioners (SMHP) advocates for the re-evaluation of the prevailing nutritional therapy for type 1 diabetes with more broad consideration for therapeutic carbohydrate reduction.

The SMHP recommends open access and clinical support for therapeutic carbohydrate reduction nutrition interventions for individuals with type 1 diabetes of all ages and calls upon the medical community to help foster more attention and research on this.
